The 10 Best Dressed of the Week

Last week, the list mainly consisted of everyday outfits, but this week the tables have turned. The only piece featured is the dress, and mainly dresses for special events. Four of them are different takes on the little black dress while neutral tones are seen in five. One of the dresses stand out in the crowd when it comes to the colour palette, and I think you might guess who? Here's a hint: orange.

10. Claire Danes

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The thing I like about this dress is that it is classic with a twist. The belt in the waist and the detailing around the neck adds an exciting element to an otherwise plain black dress. I like it when Claire Danes wears dresses like this - that's when she looks her best.

9. Olivia Palermo

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I posted this outfit earlier this week, and I had to add it to the list because it is a very lovely outfit. I know that there is some debate around whether this dress is flattering or not, but I rarely disagree with Olivia's fashion choices, and I am not about to start now. And just to prove my point: Giambattista Valli is the designer behind the dress, and he knows sexy.

8. Reese Witherspoon

My favourite part of this Jason Wu dress is the top half. It is stunning! I love anything bodice - and lingerie inspired, and especially when it is a combination of black and nude. I think it's great that she wore that dark red nail polish together with it - a fun contrast to the neutral tones.

7. Eva Mendes

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I am a huge Eva Mendes fan, as many of you might have understood by now. She always looks incredible at every event, and her everyday style is good too. Wearing this pale pink Versace gown suits Eva's sweet and sexy bombshell look. It is as if this dress was made for her.

6. Bianca Brandolini D'Adda

I must say that I really like this slightly different take on the little black dress. The detailing on the upper half of the dress is very playful and sexy. It's a bit too much material on the bottom half, but Bianca weighs it up by teaming the dress together with gorgeous accessories.

5. Kate Bosworth

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

This bright orange dress by Proenza Schouler was a favourite of mine on Friday, and it still is today. Kate Bosworth is the perfect starlet for this dress as it is so playful and girly yet cool and sophisticated at the same time. I am looking forward to seeing Kate in more bright colours as it looks so great on her.

4. Olivia Palermo

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Olivia definitely gets around, and I wonder how she manages to look so wonderful at every event when it seems as if she attends like 50 each week. Some people are just born with style running through their veins (and a wallet to match their needs!). What I like so much about this outfit is the interesting  mismatching of all the different pieces.

3. Demi Moore

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Similar to many of you, I have a bad case of Balmainia, and whenever I see someone wearing a piece by Balmain, my heart jumps a heartbeat. Demi Moore looks insanely good in this black and gold dress from the fall 2010 colletion. She is the perfect woman for this dress!

2. Olivia Palermo

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

It is rare to see Olivia Palermo in a pair of flats. The only other time that I can recall seeing her in something other than stunning high heels, is when she walked around in a pair of oxfords. I really like the pale palette she has used for this outfit, mainly using nude and grey. Just brilliant, Olivia!

1. Eva Mendes

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Eva has been looking amazing this week, wearing dresses from Versace to Oscar de la Renta. But it is the dress by Lela Rose that has made her reach the top of the list this week. If I could have any of the dresses on this list, it has to be this one (yes, more than the Balmain dress, believe it or not!). This is one of the best dresses I have seen for a while.

Kate in Proenza Schouler S/S '11

At the 27th Annual Night of Stars on Thursday, Kate Bosworth turned up in this orange and pink dress fresh from Proenza Schouler's spring/summer 2011 collection. I adore how she has teamed it together with black heels and a black clutch as it brings out the black collar on the dress. A hint of black also brings out the acid colours of the dress. I am loving that more and more celebrities are wearing fun, bright colours.

I do love Proenza Schouler's S/S 2011 collection because exactly because of the bright colours, and also because of the materials used for the different pieces. Still, I must admit that the dress that Kate wore last night wasn't one of those that instantly caught my attention after seeing photos from the runway show. Seeing it on Kate has definitely made me notice it. Now I am craving it!

Dewi Driegen as Friday Inspiration

A good outfit does not need to be harder than this. Well, it is quite hard to wear such a simple outfit and make it look incredible, like model Dewi Driegen does with this. I instantly want to pair my leather jacket with a pair of nude high heels. I also want to dye my hair the same colour as her and get my hairdresser to give me a sharp fringe. Stylewise, I sometimes think of Dewi as Kate Lanphear's little sister. Dewi is not as rock & roll as Kate, but there are elements in her style that remind me of the style director for US Elle.

Olivia Celebrating Elle's 25th Anniversary

On Tuesday, US Elle Magazine celebrated its 25th anniversary, and it was no surprise that Olivia Palermo turned up to the party. She looked fabulous as always, wearing a white a-line dress which makes me think of the 60s and people such as Twiggy and Audrey Hepburn. She teamed the dress with a pair of bright pink shoes which I think is very fun and unexpected of Olivia. Most of the time she is so classic and sharp in the way she dresses, but here she adds a little playfulness. I like it!

It was announced on Monday that "The City"will most likely not continue. I am actually quite sad to learn this, as I have watched all of the episodes from both season 1 and season 2 several times. I know that there were many who didn't take to the show, but I was one of those who liked it a lot. The reason was that it was set in New York, was packed with style inspiration by Olivia and quite often Whitney too, and it followed the dreams and the route of building a wonderful career. I will definitely miss it!

Vogue Nippon Getting Festive

The December 2010 issues are popping up, and according to the fashion industry it's time to be thinking about Christmas soon (even though it's still only October!). Ah well, there is no lagging behind when it comes to fashion. I wouldn't say that I am ready for Christmas yet (don't get me wrong, I LOVE Christmas!), but this cover for Vogue Nippon definitely puts me in a festive mood. It must be the sequined Emilio Pucci dress from the fall 2010 collection, and all the gold jewelry.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Also, I must admit that I love the blue lipstick used for the cover. I never used to be such a big fan of blue make-up, but lately it seems like I have been loving it since I praised the blue eyeshadow used for the cover of the November issue of Vogue Paris.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I absolutely adore the jewelry used in the photo above. It's the kind of unique pieces that you expect Olivia Palermo to wear. Hmm, I am already planning to wear lots of sequins and glitter together with large pieces of jewelry this Christmas...I wonder why?

I'm With the Band

In another of my recent posts, I talked about the November issue of Vouge Espana. I mentioned an editorial called "Estoy con la banda", and since I really like some of the photos from this ed, I thought I'd post them here on Style Spot. I think I like photos like these as much because have a huge thing for blazers, leather and sequins, and I also have this secret dream of running away with band.

If you could choose any band to run away with, who would it be?

Miss Love

I recently did a post about the photos that The Selby shot from Pamela Love's home in Brooklyn, where I also expressed my admiration for the jewelry designer. I found these street style photos on the lovely and talented Vanessa Jackman's blog, and once again I must exclaim my fascination for Pamela Love. She always manages to look so laidback and cool, and she mixes and matches so many great pieces. And I want the crow skull necklace so much!

Love & Peace

Those of you who have followed Style Spot for a while, know how much I love Vogue Paris. I could rant on for hours about how incredible Carine Roitfeld and her creative team are. But I won't do that now. Instead I want to ask you what you think of the magazine's cover for the November issue. Do you love it? Or do you hate it? I really like it. First of all I think Natasha Poly is a great model, and she works the Givenchy SS '11 hair so well. Also, I love the hippie vibe of the cover. I used to want to be a hippie when I was younger, and I still think there's a little flower child inside of me. Thirdly, the make-up is stunning. The blue eyeshadow almost pops off the cover, and is extremely attention-grabbing. Well done, Vogue Paris!

What do you think of the November 2010 cover?
I absolutely love it!
It's okay, but nothing special.
I hate it!

The 10 Best Dressed of the Week

I found it quite difficult to find this week's ten best dressed. You can say that it's been kind of a slow week. After a lot of searching I found the ten that I believe deserve a place on the list, and the thing I instantly noticed was that many of the outfits are casual outfits. I'm looking for lots of fall inspiration at the moment so I guess this must have affected my choices. Still, the first place has been given to a very chic woman who is definitely not wearing a casual outfit. I'll give you a hint: bold and bright!

10. Annalynne McCord

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I have never watched an episode of 90210 (is it any good?), and therefore I don't follow the cast's wardrobes that much. I've never thought that much about Annalynne McCord's outfits before, but I actully quite like this. The jacket is a nice material and fit, and I like how her hot pink heels pop against her black tuxedo pants.

9. Blake Lively

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I adore this dress from the Dior pre-fall 2010 collection. It's so girly and sweet. I am a huge fan of outfits that consist of contrasts so therefore I love how she wears that tough leather jacket together with it. I think she could have done something different with her hair though. Maybe a messy bun?

8. Shenae Grimes

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

It seems like I have entered 90210 mode here on Style Spot. First posting Annalynne and now Shenae. But I have to since I really like this outfit. I am very weak for the whole "leather jacket - short, simple dress - chunky boots" combination. I don't like the necklace together with this though. It clashes too much with the studs on her jacket. I'd say lots of statement bracelets or rings instead.

7. Fearne Cotton

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I adore Fearne Cotton. She seems so fun and sweet, and I love her interviews. Have you seen the one she does with Mischa Barton? If not, go to youtube and watch it. And if you have you can see why I like her. She has good taste when it comes to clothes, and she oozes of the cool London style. This is a great everyday outfit. I really want a coat like hers.

6. Eva Mendes

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Another woman I adore is Eva Mendes. I love almost everything she wears. She's one of those wonder women that always tend to look stunning. This outfit speaks a bit for itself. It's a bit quirky yet at the same time it's so lovely. I want those shoes so much, and she has reminded me that I need to get myself a fur vest. They look great over simple dresses and together with skinny jeans.

5. Zoe Kravitz

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I have this great fascination for Zoe Kravitz. I just think she's crazy cool (it runs in the family!). Her attitude is so easy and laidback and she has this knack of putting together random pieces, making them look great together. The piece I love the most about this outfit is the jacket. The studded detail is so nice. And her clutch is definitely on my wish list.

4. Olivia Palermo

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I want this beige cape by "By Malene Birger" so, so much. Olivia always chooses the most fantastic pieces for her wardrobe, and this is just perfect for fall. It looks great together with her black leather pants. I need to go hunting!

3. Cat Deeley

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Another cape I love is this military green one worn by Cat Deeley. I want one like that too. Who knows, maybe I'll fill up my wardrobe with rows and rows of capes?! Also, her boots are incredible. Cat, if you don't need them anymore, please, pretty please, give them to me? Oh, a girl can dream.

2. Olivia Palermo

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I have already posted this outfit worn by Olivia earlier this week, but I just had to include it in the list too as it is so inspiring. I talked about how it can help solve many a fashion crisis on those mornings where you feel like you have absolutely nothing to wear. Put on an all-black outfit, for example leather pants and a blazer, like Olivia. Throw on an unexpected piece, like a fur vest or, surprise surprise, a cape. Add a few accessories with a bit of colour and you're good to go.

1. Gwyneth Paltrow

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I am a big fan of Gwyneth Paltrow. She seems like such a lovely person, and I like her style very much. I was thrilled to see her in this bright orange dress from the Calvin Klein collection earlier this week. She deserves the first place as it is quite daring to wear such a bold colour, and get away with it. She looks absolutely stunning in it, and I do hope to see many more bright coloured dresses in the very near future.

When In Doubt, Wear Black

If you have one of those days where you look into your wardrobe and can't think of anything to wear (we all have those days!), an all-black outfit is always a great way to go. Not only does it make you instantly classic and elegant, but it also gives you a great opportunity to play around with accessories to add to your black canvas. I love these two all-black outfits worn by Olivia Palermo and Bianca Brandolini D'Adda. They are definitely going in my inspiration folder and I'll look at them the next I have "I have absolutely nothing to wear!" mini-crisis.

Iselin for Vogue Espana

I am enjoying what I have seen so far from the November issue of Vogue Espana. Especially the editorial "Estoy con la banda" featuring Iselin Steiro and Toni Garrn as groupies (check it out at The Fashion Spot). Another editorial where Iselin Steiro modeled, is "Otono Completo", photographed by  Patrick & Victor Demarchelier. This photo of her instantly caught my eye. It is exactly the look I am going for this fall and winter; an aviator inspired coat, well-cut basic pieces and lots and lots of chunky statement jewelry.

Lanvin Hearts H&M

On Monday, the blogosphere went crazy over the first sneak peak from the collection Lanvin is doing for H&M. I really like the looks that were shown - there's something so classic and elegant about dark, sharp silhouettes. Now a new photo has been released - showing more colour and flowers this time. The dress that Natasha Poly is wearing is gorgeous.

What do think about the Lanvin for H&M collection so far? Will you be queueing in the lines?

Candy Coloured Trousers

I can't get enough of roaming street style websites, and one of my many favourites is STREETFSN.  Here I discovered this outfit which really inspires me. The pale green, almost mint coloured trousers are so refreshing, and I love how she has teamed them together with a simple, classic cream coloured blazer, an elegant beige clutch and a pair of statement shoes. And I really like that she's wearing the coat on her shoulders - it adds such a cool detail.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

This street style outfit made me think of Serena from Gossip Girl. It's no secret that I adore Serena's style, and so far, her wardrobe for season 4 is just brilliant. Especially in the episodes where she is in Paris. While she's there, she wears this amazing outfit consisting of lose baby pink trousers together with a neutral tank and bold accessories (LOVE that green necklace!).

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I have to get myself a pair of lose pastel trousers. Who knew they could look so great?! What do you think about them? Is it something you would wear?

At Pamela's Place

Ever since I laid eyes on a piece of jewelry by Pamela Love, I have been fascinated by her and her talent. I love reading and watching interviews with her, her way of dressing is so cool and I can safely say that I want each and every piece of jewelry that she has designed. Being such a huge fan of hers meant that when I visited The Selby earlier today, I almost choked. On the top of the page it said: Pamela Love - jewelry designer and Jordan Sullivan - photographer and musician - at their home - Brooklyn. This really made my day, to put it mildly. Enjoy the photos as much as I have (and still am!) and pop over to The Selby to see the rest.

Statement Dresses

Both Gwyneth Patrow and Diane Kruger turned up at the at Elle's 17th Annual Women in Hollywood Tribute wearing dresses from the Calvin Klein Collection. Gwyneth wore an orange long-sleeved dress with an open back while Diane opted for a hot pink piece. I think it's refreshing to see some bold statement colours being worn for the cameras. I am hoping that this trend will continue.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I wish they had styled them more differently though. As you can see they are both wearing almost identical heels and their choice of bag is the same: a small clutch. Any ideas to how you would like to have styled them? And who had the best dress?

Who's dress would you rather wear?
