A Seventies Inspired Autumn

One of my favourite eras when it comes to fashion is the 70s. The bohemian look with flowy maxi dresses, brown, slouchy boots, wide-legged jeans, jumpsuits and long hair with bangs makes my style heart beat faster. I have cut out so many photos of 70s style icons such as Bianca Jagger, Farrah Fawcett and Jerry Hall, and my attention is instantly drawn to celebrities (think Rachel Zoe) and movie characters (such as Sienna Miller as Nicki in "Alfie") inspired by the era. Searching Fashion Gone Rouge I found this 70s inspired shoot, and it's instant love. I desperately need the jumpsuit in the 2nd photo, and I'd give a lot to have the whole outfit in the 1st picture. Great pieces to wear this fall!

Sienna is Airport Chic

I meant to post this last week, but those of you who read Style Spot on a daily basis (I hope there are a few at least!) will know that posts were very limited last week. Sorry about that, again. Anyways, back to Sienna. I have gushed about her airport outfits earlier (and about her style in general), and I'll have to do it again. When thinking about airport outfits, the first thing that comes to mind is Victoria Beckham, who prefers style over comfort, vs. approximately the rest of the world's population, who chooses comfort (in other words, washed out jogging pants). Sienna is one of those who manages to combine both style and comfort perfectly. A pair of comfy jeans (stretch is essential here), a lose shirt, a warm, simple knit teamed together with flats, a large bag to room your magazines, books and i-pods, and last but not least add some simple accessories such as a silk scarf as a belt and elegant earrings. Then you're good to go.

What do you wear when traveling? Do you prefer style, comfort or a combination of both?

Olivia Palermo for Mango

As Olivia Palermo is the new face for Mango, it was no surprise that she turned up at Mango's presentation of their new S/S 2011 collection in Madrid. Mainly dressed in clothes from the new line, she looked as elegant and lovely as she always does. I do love beige trousers together with a loose, cream silk blouse. It reminds of models in the 70s for some reason. There's no need to mention it really, as Olivia is a master at accessorizing, and I know that many of you look at her jewelry and bags first (well, I do at least!), but just look at how perfectly everything works with each other. I love that she mixes and matches statement pieces.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Also, I have heard rumours that Olivia is getting her own show. It's probably too early to tell yet, but she was asked by Models1 what her plans for 2011 are, where she told them this:

"More design definitely. I'm also starting to work on my own TV show, which is based around my life in fashion, and being creative". Read the rest HERE.

Leighton Meester in Marchesa S/S 2011

Last night, Leighton Meester attended the Court of Jewels Recreation launch at the Harry Winston store in New York. She wore a black, lace romper from the Marchesa S/S 2011 collection together with heels by Nicholas Kirkwood and, of course, some dazzling Harry Winston jewelry.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I know that there might be split opinions about this outfit, as there always is when someone makes a bold fashion statement (but that's just the risk one has to take!). I mentioned in the latest "The 10 Best Dressed of the Week" that I have a very love/hate relationship when it comes to Leighton's outfits, but lately she has been wowing me with her great pieces, one after the other. And this is definitely one of my favourite Leighton-outfits ever. The top-half of the romper is especially nice, and I love how she wears it with her hair loosely up and with that purple lipstick. Very femme fatale.

Christine Gets It Right As Always

I'll continue on the path of inspiration with this street style photo of Christine Centenera. As many of you know, I am quite the admirer of Christine's outfits. Whenever I see a photo of her, I just have to post it. She always gets her style exactly right with her sharply cut pieces and well-chosen accessories. This time it's the knitted top with the fun detail on the back and the leopard heels that grabs the attention. Christine, I want your whole closet for Christmas!

Kate Moss as Tuesday Inspiration

I found these photos of Kate Moss while spending time on the Fashion Spot forum, but I couldn't find out where they are from or how old they are. Are any of you wiser than me when it comes to this? Anyway, the reason why I just had to post these is because they really fascinate me; everything from Kate Moss to the setting to the styling. The styling inspires me so much as it's those kind of easy, laidback but still très chic pieces that I want my everyday outfits to consist of.

The 10 Best Dressed of the Week

First of all, let me apologize for the very poor blogging this last week. The hectic exam period is kicking in, and therefore Style Spot had to suffer a bit. I felt really bad not posting "The 10 Best Dressed of the Week" yesterday, so here it is today. The week's best dressed consists of lovely ladies in gorgeous dresses - many in bold splashes of colour and many in chic black. I am starting to look for inspiration for the Christmas parties that are just around the corner. Maybe you are too, and hopefully some of these can inspire you. Enjoy!

10. Gwyneth Paltrow

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Gwyneth Paltrow looked beautiful in this Chado Ralph Rucci dress. I love the combination of the shiny black material and the see-through parts. Very sexy in a mature way, and Gwyneth carries it with such style and grace. There have been some disagreements when it comes to Lanvin heels, but I must say that I like them together with this dress.

9. Joanna Gracia

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I love a dark purple dress on a brunette. There's something about that combination that makes you notice it straight away. It oozes such elegance. I like that Joanna wore silver accessories with it, as many opt for gold accessories with purple dresses. It makes a nice change.

8. Leighton Meester

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I must admit that most of the time I do prefer Blake Lively's style over Leighton Meester's style. With Blake there's rarely an outfit that I dislike, but when it comes to Leighton I have more of a love/hate relationship with her fashion choices. When it comes to this dress by Pucci, however, Leighton gets ten points from me. She looks stunning and very bohemian chic in it.

7. Lauren Conrad

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I love it when Lauren Conrad gets on the red carpet as I absolutely adore her. What I love even more is that this pale blue dress is from TopShop. It's music to my ears, though it's probably ripped away from the hangers already. Lauren really suits this old Hollywood glamour style, and here's hoping to seeing more of her like this.

6. Rachel Bilson

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I find this dress from the Chanel Resort collection so refreshing, and especially when Rachel Bilson is the one wearing it. It's got her name written all over her. Also, I like that she has teamed it with those heels. It would have been so easy to wear it together with black, patent heels or something similar.

5. Olivia Palermo

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

At first, I didn't think much of this outfit on Olivia Palermo, but the more I looked at it the more I liked it. She plays with different contrasts when it comes to the materials and also pairs the 20s inspired dress with a more modern leopard belt. And there's nothing I love more than people playing around with contrasts when it comes to style.

4. Malin Akermann

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I often find that simplicity is the best way to go, and therefore I really fell in love with Malin Akermann's outfit this week. The cream dress suits her body so well, and I adore how she has teamed it together with relaxed silver and brown accessories. Her hair is lovely for this outfit too.

3. Emma Watson

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I can't say that I have been an eager follower of all the Harry Potter festivities that have taken place this week, but I most certainly noticed Emma Watson's Rafael Lopez dress that she wore at the London premiere for the 7th Harry Potter film. It's incredible. I have always loved her short hair, and I believe that this gives her such a stronger look. This is why she pulls this off so perfectly.

2. Eva Mendes

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

As you may have expected, Eva is on the list this week as well. I just can't helping posting her outfits as she always looks stunning. This week she wore this gorgeous and fresh Prada dress together with sexy. patent heels. I absolutely adore the colours. It makes me long for spring and summer.

1. Rihanna

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I just had to give Rihanna the first place as I am head over heels in love with this incredible piece designed by Elie Saab. There aren't many words that can express my adoration for this dress, so I'll just let it speak for itself. Gorgeous!
Gwyneth and Leighton

Last night, the premiere for the movie "Country Strong"was held in Nashville, and Gwyneth Paltrow and Leighton Meester attended as they both have leading roles. And may I add that they both showed up in style. They sported two very different looks, but they both looked stunning, each in their own way.  Gwyneth wore a black, classic dress with a sexy twist to it from the Chado Ralph Rucci S/S 2011 collection together with edgy heels from the Lanvin S/S 2011 collection. By wearing this dress she showed that she is a mature woman, but that she still has fun with fashion.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Leighton opted for a younger and more playful option by wearing this dress from the Marc Jacobs S/S 2011 collection. Leighton is known for her fresh choices when it comes to fashion so it is no surprise to see her in this unique dress. The more I look at it, the more I like it. I especially love the gold dress which is underneath together with the black on the top-half of the dress.

The 10 Best Dressed of the Week

Following this weeks trend here on Style Spot, three of the best dressed on the list are wearing sparkly sequins. I'm a huge fan of sequins, and I'm afraid you just have to bear with me. It's just one of those things that I can't cure. Even though there are plenty of outfits focusing on the glitz and the glamour on the list, there are three really great everyday outfits, and I can tell you that Kate Moss is the brain behind one of them.

10. Sienna Miller

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Sienna Miller is one of those who inspires me most when it comes to style. Her style does go up and down, but when she gets it right she really gets it right. Her outfits at the airport are also an inspiration most of the time, as they are not too fussy, but laidback and stylish at the same time. Just like this one. Comfy skinny jeans, a leather jacket and a few great accessories, like a big bag and a scarf.

9. Olivia Wilde

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

This is the first sequin outfit on the list. Olivia Wilde is wearing this beautiful and classic piece by Michael Kors. I read on The Fashion Spot that some find her looking older than she is in this dress, but I think it suits her very well. She has such a strong face that she can wear this dramatic outfit without looking like a witch (which is quite easy when you're wearing a long black dress).

8. Kate Moss

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Not many can pull off a 70s inspired sequin jumpsuit, but Kate Moss most definitely can. I wish I was brave enough to wear this piece which she wore to the launch of her last collection for TopShop, but I doubt that I would look nowhere near as good as Kate. The bangs and the red lipstick completes this look perfectly.

7. Anne Hathaway

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Anne Hathaway also wore a black jumpsuit this week, but left the sequins at home. I love the lace detail both on the chest area and at the bottom.  She kept it simple, but fun at the same time by wearing high black patent heels, colourful nail polish and a sparkly cocktail ring. Very chic indeed.

6. Stephanie Pratt

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I am as surprised as you might be that I have given Stephanie the 6th place, but I really do like this outfit. Especially the details such as the necklace and the belt. I used to be quite the devoted "The Hills" watcher, and I saw a change in Stephanie's style in the last season. A change which was for the better. But back to the outfit: I'd maybe change the skirt and wear more low-key shoes with this if I were her.

5. Eva Mendes

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I can always rely on Eva Mendes wearing a great outfit every week. She always looks stunning, and I believe that if she wore only a potato sack she would look amazing as well. I adore this floaty, chocolate brown piece teamed together with gold accessories and nude heels. Spot on as always.

4. Behati Prinsloo

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Apart from Kate Moss, the model who has the best style in my opinion, is Behati Prinsloo. She has this cool and special something about her, and she projects it so well into her everyday outfits. There is absolutely nothing I would change about this outfit. Oh leopard coat, please come and live in my closet? And bring the rest with you.

3. Kate Moss

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

This is a standard outfit by Kate Moss, but it is oh-so brilliant. Even though I feel like I've seen a similar outfit on Kate before, she continues to wow me with her style choices. I want this camel coat so bad that my insides hurt, and I could easily wear those boots every day. A visit to Kate's closet would be an amazing dream come true.

2. Carey Mulligan

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I fell in love with this outfit the instant I saw it, and it's mainly because of the combination of colours. I really like it when an outfit consists of basic colours, such as white, black and grey, and a bright colour is added as an great detail. The electric blue heels makes this lovely outfit so exciting. Carey Mulligan carries it so well.

1. Natalia Vodianova

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I posted this outfit on Friday, so you know I love this. And when I say love, I mean LOVE! Natalia Vodianova is the perfect woman for this dress designed by Balmain, and she has chosen excellent accessories to wear with it. She could easily have looked like a walking Christmas tree, but instead she resembles a perfect angel dazzling at the top of it.

A Friday Full of Sequins

On Monday, the Harper's Bazaar Women of the Year Awards was held in London. Natalia Vodianova appeared in this incredible sequined piece from the Balmain fall 2010 collection, making her the sparkling star of the evening. As a big fan of Natalia, Balmain and sequins, it's no surprise that this is combination that makes me very happy and inspired. It's also a great inspiration for the festive season which is just around the corner, and I'd like to find a dress like this to wear to some of the Christmas parties. Probably easier said than done!

Natalia Vodianova is also featured on the cover of the December issue of Harper's Bazaar, wearing Balmain. Many of the magazines December issues are obsessed with sequins at the moment, like UK Elle with Anne Hathaway in Balmain and Alessandra Ambrosio in Pucci on the cover of Vogue Nippon. I'm loving it!

Blake Lively Sparkles

Last night, Blake Lively attended the opening of the Realm Boutique in NYC, wearing this sparkly outfit. Everyone who has followed Style Spot for a while knows how much I love sequins, so it might not come as a surprise that I am posting this outfit. One of my favourite ways to wear sequins is to tone it down a bit and wear it with something a bit more tough, like denim or, as in this case, an oversized, simple shirt. I like Blake's combination a lot as it reminds me a lot of her character's style, Serena, in Gossip Girl. Still, I am not sure about the brown belt. When I look at this outfit, I sometime love it and other times I hate it. Knowing me, I think I'll land on the decision that I love it.

What about you? Do you like this outfit? Would you have something different with it?

Layers on Layers

One of the main reasons to why I love the autumn so much is the chance to play around with lots of different layers. The possibilities are endless. I especially love combinations of lose boho dresses, chunky knits, large scarves and brown boots. Think Sienna Miller in the early days. After seeing this photo of Erin Wasson in the November issue of Jalouse magazine, two new elements are going to be added to my favourite combination: a brown hat and lots and lots of chunky jewelry.

The Row A/W 2011 Backstage

Kate Moss has her collection for TopShop, Sienna Miller is one of the proud owners of Twenty8Twelve and Victoria Beckham is behind the lable with the same name. I am inspired by all of these, but I must say that the lines that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are behind, are the most exciting. Especially "The Row". I find it so interesting listening to Mary-Kate and Ashley when they talk about their company, and how they work with their different lines. They seem so dedicated and so clear in their vision for what they want their company to be.

I find "The Row" videos to be extremely inspiring too. Today, I re-discovered this video clip directed by KT Auleta, and I have already watched it many times in the last hours. Watch it yourself, you might get hooked as well.

AW Boots

Lately, the Kori Off The Chains boots by Alexander Wang have been spinning around in my mind. I can't let go of my obsession for them, and the thought of how perfect they would be in my autumn/winter wardrobe makes me slightly crazy. My exam period is quickly emerging, and I am sure it is for some of you too (sorry to remind you!). I am a firm believer in rewards during this hectic and stressful period, so maybe I should be good to myself this year and treat myself to these as motivation?

The 10 Best Dressed of the Week

Last week, the list mainly consisted of everyday outfits, but this week the tables have turned. The only piece featured is the dress, and mainly dresses for special events. Four of them are different takes on the little black dress while neutral tones are seen in five. One of the dresses stand out in the crowd when it comes to the colour palette, and I think you might guess who? Here's a hint: orange.

10. Claire Danes

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The thing I like about this dress is that it is classic with a twist. The belt in the waist and the detailing around the neck adds an exciting element to an otherwise plain black dress. I like it when Claire Danes wears dresses like this - that's when she looks her best.

9. Olivia Palermo

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I posted this outfit earlier this week, and I had to add it to the list because it is a very lovely outfit. I know that there is some debate around whether this dress is flattering or not, but I rarely disagree with Olivia's fashion choices, and I am not about to start now. And just to prove my point: Giambattista Valli is the designer behind the dress, and he knows sexy.

8. Reese Witherspoon

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

My favourite part of this Jason Wu dress is the top half. It is stunning! I love anything bodice - and lingerie inspired, and especially when it is a combination of black and nude. I think it's great that she wore that dark red nail polish together with it - a fun contrast to the neutral tones.

7. Eva Mendes

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I am a huge Eva Mendes fan, as many of you might have understood by now. She always looks incredible at every event, and her everyday style is good too. Wearing this pale pink Versace gown suits Eva's sweet and sexy bombshell look. It is as if this dress was made for her.

6. Bianca Brandolini D'Adda

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I must say that I really like this slightly different take on the little black dress. The detailing on the upper half of the dress is very playful and sexy. It's a bit too much material on the bottom half, but Bianca weighs it up by teaming the dress together with gorgeous accessories.

5. Kate Bosworth

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

This bright orange dress by Proenza Schouler was a favourite of mine on Friday, and it still is today. Kate Bosworth is the perfect starlet for this dress as it is so playful and girly yet cool and sophisticated at the same time. I am looking forward to seeing Kate in more bright colours as it looks so great on her.

4. Olivia Palermo

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Olivia definitely gets around, and I wonder how she manages to look so wonderful at every event when it seems as if she attends like 50 each week. Some people are just born with style running through their veins (and a wallet to match their needs!). What I like so much about this outfit is the interesting  mismatching of all the different pieces.

3. Demi Moore

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Similar to many of you, I have a bad case of Balmainia, and whenever I see someone wearing a piece by Balmain, my heart jumps a heartbeat. Demi Moore looks insanely good in this black and gold dress from the fall 2010 colletion. She is the perfect woman for this dress!

2. Olivia Palermo

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

It is rare to see Olivia Palermo in a pair of flats. The only other time that I can recall seeing her in something other than stunning high heels, is when she walked around in a pair of oxfords. I really like the pale palette she has used for this outfit, mainly using nude and grey. Just brilliant, Olivia!

1. Eva Mendes

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Eva has been looking amazing this week, wearing dresses from Versace to Oscar de la Renta. But it is the dress by Lela Rose that has made her reach the top of the list this week. If I could have any of the dresses on this list, it has to be this one (yes, more than the Balmain dress, believe it or not!). This is one of the best dresses I have seen for a while.
