Natalie Portman in Rodarte

I would like to end this Oscar-filled day here at Style Spot with the star of the evening; the most beautiful Natalie Portman. Rumour has it that she was planning to wear a Dior gown, but decided to change because of Galliano being arrested last week. Instead, she wore this plum coloured gown by the Mulleavy sisters at Rodarte. Even though Natalie looked stunning in this colour, I can't help but think what the rumoured Dior gown looked like. I just have this feeling that it would have brought a much greater wow-factor, but I do understand her choice of not wearing Dior.

Last night, was Natalie's moment. And she deserved every bit of it. She was the favourite to win the Oscar for "Actress in a leading role", and I was one of those rooting for her, desperately hoping that she would win. I loved her speech a lot as she was so sweet and genuine. Congratulations Natalie! I was also very happy to see Colin Firth win "Actor in a leading role" - I have had this thing for him ever since I saw him dive into the pond in Pride & Prejudice (and I know I'm not the only one!).

Also, I am very curious to learn who you think was the best dressed of the evening. For me, it was Mila Kunis in Elie Saab. If your favourite is not on the list below, please let me know who you liked instead.

Who had the best Oscar dress?
Mila Kunis
Gwyneth Paltrow
Cate Blanchett

Michelle Williams in Chanel

One can never really go wrong when wearing Chanel, and Chanel at the Oscars is just the epitome of glamorous. Michelle Williams wore this elegant Haute Couture Chanel gown, and was therefore the Chanel queen of the evening. It is a very beautiful dress (and much prettier seen on tv than on photos!), but I can't help but feel that I wish she had been a bit more bold with her choice of dress as she was nominated for "Actress in a leading role" for her part in Blue Valentine.

That said, I do like the Edie Sedgwick vibe that she oozes with the blonde pixie haircut and the dyed eyebrows. Maybe this is how Edie would look like if she attended the Oscars? The only difference might have been that Edie would have worn huge earrings and a lot of black eyeliner.

What do you think about Michelle's Chanel look?

Jennifer Lawrence in Calvin Klein

Jennifer Lawrence, nominated for the title as "Actress in a leading role" for her part in Winter's Bone, wore a hot red gown from the Calvin Klein collection. I have read that many found this dress inappropriate and too casual for the Oscars. I do agree that she could have opted for a more glamorous piece for this occasion, but I have to say that I really do like this dress anyway. I love it when celebrities have a red moment (though I wasn't too keen on Anne Hathaway in Valentino, or Sandra Bullock in Vera Wang last night), but I do wish that Jennifer had her red moment with more striking accessories. It is such a simple and fun dress to play around with, so I wish she had taken advantage of that.

Hailee Steinfeld in Marchesa

14 year old Hailee Steinfeld is the newest and youngest member of the Hollywood it-crowd, and to the Oscars last night she wore a gorgeous custom made Marchesa gown which was fit for a true princess. I love that she opted for such a dress as it is perfect for her age. Together with it she wore Fred Leighton jewelry and Salvatore Ferragamo heels and clutch.

I haven't seen her performance in "True Grit" yet, but I have heard that she is fantastic in it. And I have no trouble believing that. She is so cute, and she seemed so extremely excited to be attending the Oscars. She is very adorable. Hailee is definitely one to watch!

What do you think of Hailee's dress? Do you like her as an actress?

Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Couture S/S 2011

Cate Blanchett in a haute couture gown by Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy was one of the best matches of the evening. Back in late January, I fell head over heels in love with this couture collection as the detailing is absolutely exquisite. This "Tao" dress was one of my favourites. The reason why is because of the lavender and yellow teamed together (such a fresh and exciting combination!) and the contrast between the tough and bold shoulders and the delicate details and fabric.

Alongside my immense hope of seeing an Elie Saab gown last night, I was also hoping to see some Givenchy couture. And I am so happy that Cate was the one to make the bold fashion statement as she is the perfect woman for such dresses. She really lifted the level of fashion last night, and I adore her so much doing that.

Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein

Another favourite of mine was Gwyneth Paltrow who wore a gold custom made gown by Calvin Klein and jewelry by Louis Vuitton. I love how classic it is, while at the same time it has a very modern touch to it. The LV earrings and brooch create a unique and personal statement, which slightly reminds me of an old Hollywood feel. On another note, Gwyneth has the perfect body for a dress like this. If I had her body, I would wear dresses like this all the time.

Do you like Gwyneth's Calvin Klein dress?

Mila Kunis in Elie Saab Couture S/S 2011

You can not believe how excited I was to see Mila Kunis in this incredible haute couture lavender gown by Elie Saab. As some of you remember, yesterday I was hoping that someone would wear a piece from this collection as it comprises so many dresses that are worthy of being at the Oscars. Still, I am glad she chose exactly this dress as it is one of my very favourites from the couture collection.

Mila looked absolutely stunning, and at first I just couldn't stop staring at these photos of her because the dress suits her so well. She definitely ranks very high on my top 5 list. I can almost safely say that she was my favourite of the evening, though there are a few other dresses deserves a lot of attention as they were amazing. Check back very soon to see more!

Natalie Portman in Givenchy

As mentioned in the last post, the 2011 Film Independent Spirit Awards was held yesterday, and another lovely and incredible actress who attended was Natalie Portman. She wore a gorgeous yellow and beige piece from the Givenchy Haute Couture collection, which showed off her beautiful stomach. Together with it she wore Stella McCartney heels and jewelry by Cartier. I really hope, and think, that she will win the award as best actress at the Oscars tonight. She really deserves to have this moment.

Eva and Zoe in Graphic Prints

Last night, the 2011 Independent Spirit Awards was held in California. Actresses Eva Mendes and Zoe Saldana are both known for their impeccable styles, and they did not disappoint this evening either. Both opted for dresses in graphic prints, worn with colourful heels and large statement rings. Eva Mendes chose a dress from Chanel's S/S 2011 collection and teamed it together with turquoise heels by Pierre Hardy and a Le Vian ring.

Zoe Saldana wore a dress by Dolce & Gabbana from their S/S 2011 collection. A pair of orange Brian Atwood pumps decorated her feet, and her accessories for the evening was a clutch by Bottega Veneta and Piaget jewelry.

The 83rd Annual Academy Awards - A Prediction

The Oscars 2011 is just around the corner, and raise a hand if you're looking forward to all the dresses! I never try to make predictions of what everyone are wearing as I like it to be surprised, but this year I have attempted to make a prediction - or a better description is probably that I have a deep, passionate hope - that someone will be wearing Elie Saab S/S 2011 Couture. There are so many Oscar worthy dresses in this collection, and it would be such a shame if none of them will be seen at the awards.

If someone will be wearing Elie Saab, who do you think it will be?

Streetstyle Saturday

I know that I am in the company of many others when I say that one of my biggest sources for inspiration is streetstyle. Therefore, I have decided that every Saturday I will do a post dedicated to some of the most interesting and inspiring outfits that I discover during the week. I really do hope that this is something you, my dear readers, will like.

If there are some streetstyle sites or blogs you would like to recommend (maybe you run one yourself?), please do not hesitate to tell me about them. The more, the merrier!

Orange and Blue

Okay, I'm back! I am so sorry for keeping you waiting for so long. Even though I am playing catch-up with the A/W 2011 shows from New York, London and now Milan, I still keep in mind that the S/S 2011 season is just around the corner. One of my favourite colour combinations for the warmer season is as seen in this photo: orange and electric blue. I am thinking of finding an orange, Halston-style maxi dress and teaming it with blue nail polish and huge blue rings. Or maybe an electric blue blazer combined with an orange clutch.

Which colour combinations do you like?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Check back later today because I will be launching a post that will be happening every Saturday from now on!

Just a Quick Note

I am very sorry for the absence of posts here on Style Spot! The reason is that I am helping out and organizing parts of a student festival, which takes up a lot of my time. It is bad timing as I would very much like to be up to date on all of the NYC Fashion Week runway shows, but I'll just have to be patient and wait a few more days until I can bury my mind in fantastic designs. I am planning to post my favourite looks from most of the collections, so check back very soon to see.

Blake Lively in Alexander McQueen

Last night, Blake Lively attended the amfAR New York Gala to celebrate the beginning of Fall 2011 Fashion Week. For the event, she wore a dress by Alexander McQueen from the spring/summer 2011 collection. I have read a lot of different opinions about Blake wearing this dress; some saying that she isn't the bohemian type to be able to carry this properly, while others praise her for her choice. I love Blake in this dress, though I believe it would look more "right" on someone like Nicole Richie or Sienna Miller. What do you think?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

According to Grazia, there are rumors that Blake might be playing the role as a young Carrie Bradshaw in a possible film adaption of "The Carrie Diaries". What are your thoughts about this? Do you think she'd be good as a younger version of Carrie?

Olivia Palermo for Tibi S/S 2011

Tibi asked Olivia Palermo to style and model parts of their Spring/Summer 2011 collection, and this is how it turned out. According to the Tibi blog, they wanted Olivia to "choose the Tibi clothing that she'd like to be photographed in during the NYC, London, Paris & Milan shows - and to style them in her own personal way. She brought piles upon piles of her signature accessories and we let her have a go."

When asked about what the thought behind the whole collection was, Tibi answered that it is "a twist on the very authentic snapshot of individual style mixed with a contrived setting of the very fashionable cities our style icons are snapped in." Therefore Olivia is just perfect for this campaign, as she ranks high on the style icon list.

Belted by Ellery

These belts from the Baroque n' roll collection by Ellery are incredible. I love the different ways they have styled it apart from its obvious function as a belt. Even though it looks quite heavy, it works perfect as a necklace, and it looks fantastic as a shoulder decoration. I probably wouldn't recommend wearing it like this for hours and hours though (hello back pains and neck pains!), but I will salute everyone who will take a shot at it.

Kate Bosworth in Isabel Marant

Last night, Kate Bosworth attended the King's Speech Awards Season Party wearing Isabel Marant. In my opinion, Kate is the perfect girl for Isabel Marant; she is cool, bohemian and chic. As a big admirer of Kate's wardrobe, I have learnt that she likes a lot of neutral, basic pieces with few, but exciting details, which one can mix and match as one likes. And as a huge fan of Isabel Marant, I know she designs such pieces.

It seems that Kate Bosworth does have a weak spot for Isabel Marant, as she wore a red version of this knitted dress from the S/S 2011 collection for her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel. I definitely hope to see her in a lot more from Isabel Marant.

Leather in Elle Russia February 2011

Last post, I mentioned the love for the leather pieces by the Swedish label, House of Dagmar, and this time it's all about the leather pieces by Chanel, Blumarine and Bel Air featured in Elle Russia February 2011. I want every item. Leather pieces are those pieces of clothing that you really should invest in, as leather is timeless. A great leather skirt looks so chic and fabulous with a sheer, white shirt (or a grey shirt with a plunging neckline as in look 1), and a fitted leather jacket is an essential in every wardrobe, as it is perfect to make an outfit more rough and edgy.

What leather pieces are essential to you?

House of Dagmar S/S 2011

When it comes to Swedish design, there is a lot of talent flowing around. I get more and more impressed for each Stockholm Fashion Week. One of my favourite Swedish labels is House of Dagmar, which was launched in 2005 by the three sisters Kristina, Karin and Sofia. I was so lucky to receive an invitation to their A/W 2011 show during Stockholm Fashion Week earlier this February, but unfortunately I was unable to attend. Even though I couldn't attend, I most definitely will be very inspired by their designs, starting with their S/S 2011 collection. I am head over heels in love with their leather pieces!

Pink Delight

On my daily check-out of one of my favourite streetstyle blogs, Stockholm Streetstyle, I was met by a delightful sight. These two lovely ladies, better known as Andy (behind the blog Style Scrapbook) and Sandra (behind the blog 5 Inch and Up), have both mixed up their outfits with some shocking hot pink. When February arrives, I am always hungry for some bright colours after wearing a lot of darks and neutrals during the autumn- and winter months. This will give me a push to start digging out some pieces in bright colours, and combining them with winter coats and thick cardigans. Also, it will give the perfect excuse to go shopping. I have already seen that H&M's Trend collection is getting brighter and more colourful in between the racks.

Will you be wearing more colour soon? Or is it still a bit early?

Sienna Miller for Twenty8Twelve A/W '10

Since I am the huge Sienna Miller fan as I am, I do have a weak spot for her and her sister, Savannah's fashion label, Twenty8Twelve. Launched in September 2007, the label has been up and running for almost 3 1/2 years, and the sisters have slowly, but surely, found their dstinct expression. For their A/W 2010 collection, they have incorporated a lot of orange, denim and dark blue and black, and one can clearly see a link between these outfits and Sienna's own personal style. I definitely have to find some more orange to add to my wardrobe collection - it looks so good with denim!
